Florida CURE is dedicated to creating a more just society through criminal justice reform. Our goals are to ensure jails and prisons are used only for those who must be incarcerated and prisoners and communities have all the resources they need to move forward with full lives.
In 2009, the Florida Chapter of CURE focused on two areas of advocacy.
1) We are fighting to abolish the practice of denying civil rights to those with felony convictions. FL-CURE is a member of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. We are holding a Rights Restoration Workshop, voicing our thoughts to the Office of Executive Clemency responsible for rights reinstatement, and lobbying to remove the denial of civil rights from our State Constitution.
2) We are lobbying to pass the Second Chance for Children Act which offers opportunity for parole to juvenile offenders sentenced to life who have achieved certain requirements of personal development.
